Who books a sitter, and the evenings they book for
Most bookings come from ordinary life rather than special occasions. A couple who have not had dinner alone since the baby arrived. A parent with back to back calls and a toddler at home. A teacher work day that lands in the middle of the week. An appointment that cannot move.
We also cover the evenings families look forward to: anniversaries, birthdays, a church event, a school fundraiser, a friend's wedding across town. And we cover the ones nobody plans for, like a sick day when both parents have to be somewhere else.
What all of them share is the need to leave the house without worrying. That is the real service. Every sitter we send is background check cleared, CPR and First Aid certified, reference verified, and personally interviewed before they ever meet your children.
What a typical evening booking looks like
Arrival. Your sitter arrives a few minutes early. You walk through allergies, medication, the evening plan, house rules, and where things are kept. First bookings usually take a little longer, and that is time well spent.
Settling in. Children meet a new adult best through activity rather than conversation. Sitters start with something the children already enjoy, which shortens the goodbye considerably.
Dinner and play. Meals are prepared and served as you instructed, followed by play, crafts, reading, or homework support for school age children. Screen time follows your rules, not the sitter's.
Bath and bedtime. The routine follows the order your children know: bath, pyjamas, teeth, stories, lights out. Familiar order is what keeps bedtime calm when a parent is not the one running it.
Handoff. When you return, your sitter tells you what the children ate, how bedtime went, and anything worth knowing. Spaces used during care are tidied before they leave.
How to prepare for your first booking
Leave your mobile numbers, an emergency contact who is not in the same restaurant as you, and written allergy or medication instructions. Written matters. Nobody should be relying on memory when a child has a reaction.
Show your sitter the practical things: light switches, the first aid kit, where snacks live, which doors lock, and anything in the house that is off limits. Two minutes of this prevents a phone call later.
Tell your children in advance that a sitter is coming and use the sitter's name. Children handle new people much better when it is not a surprise. If your child struggles with goodbyes, stay for the first ten minutes of the first booking, then leave clearly rather than slipping out.
Be specific about your rules. Bedtime, screens, snacks after dinner, how you handle a refusal to brush teeth. Sitters follow your parenting, and clear instructions let them do that well.
One off bookings are welcome, but families get the most from a regular arrangement. When the same sitter comes every Thursday, the settling in period disappears. Your children have a relationship rather than an introduction, and you stop briefing from scratch.
Recurring bookings also protect your access to the sitter you like. Popular evenings fill early, and a standing slot holds your place. Families often start with a monthly date night and expand to weekly after school coverage once they see how much easier the week becomes.
If your regular sitter is unavailable, we send someone briefed on your family rather than a stranger with no context. Continuity is the point, and we work to protect it.
